Seeing the Year – Landscape in the year cycle
For three years Peter Döhle has been following the change of seasons in the small park of “Höpkens Ruh” in Bremen-Oberneuland with his camera – from the frenzy of colours in the fall to the austere minimalism of winter. In doing so, the photographer worked with a consciously applied blur in order to go beyond the documentary level to a more artistic impression.
The intended effect of volatility opens up the changing perspectives and lines of sight within the landscape of the park: Colours and moods of light become independent, and traces and outlines acquire an unexpected dynamic.
The painter couple Fritz and Hermine Overbeck also recorded the different stages of the year’s cycle in their paintings. The juxtaposition of the artworks shows clearly how the seasons unfold not only as natural phenomena but also in terms of mood and atmosphere when seen with an artistic eye.
