Fritz Overbeck – The Watercolours
The watercolours by Fritz Overbeck form a nearly unknown part of his works. He did not create them for exhibition purposes, but as sketches, approaches to new motifs, and studies for later paintings in oil on canvas.
There are good reasons, however, to put these works on display today: In their spontaneity and immediacy, they show a new facet of the well-known Worpswede painter.
Again and again, Fritz Overbeck managed to capture light-handedly a spontaneous impression of nature with intense luminosity in his watercolours.
