Sensed Horizons

16 July — 1 October 2017
Conrad Sevens | à l'infini | 2016 | Öl auf Leinwand

Conrad Sevens explores the border between abstraction and landscape painting in his works. Thus, the beauty of nature reduced to its essence is revealed. Imbued with an enigmatic glow, the images appear like soul landscapes: remote and sensitive, calm yet fluent, transparent yet impenetrable.

The depth and ambiguity of mental moods materialize in color and form: the contours are misty, the horizon is just vaguely perceptible, and can be sensed at best. Here, perception and emotionality are condensed into a vision that includes inner and outer reality.

Conrad Sevens (born 1940) studied at the Düsseldorfer Kunstakademie (Düsseldorf Art Academy) and the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris and has been working as a freelance artist for about 50 years. His works are juxtaposed with selected works by Fritz and Hermine Overbeck, who also address the almost hypnotic vastness and calm of deserted landscapes.
