For a quarter of a century, the Overbeck Museum has been a cultural attraction in Bremen-Vegesack. In 1990, at the same time as the KITO, the exhibition venue opened its doors and has since made a name for itself far beyond Bremen with more than 120 exhibitions. Founded by, and for many years under the guidance of Gertrud Overbeck, the granddaughter of the couple Fritz and Hermine Overbeck, the house is part of the Kulturbüro Bremen Nord gGmbH these days, under the direction of Dr. Katja Pourshirazi.

The varied exhibition program of the last 25 years has not only focused on the work of the Worpswede painter Fritz Overbeck and his wife, the painter Hermine Overbeck-Rohte but also the works of numerous artists from the turn of the century to the present day, presented in special exhibitions, often in direct comparison with the works of Fritz and Hermine Overbeck.

On the couple’s anniversary, the Overbeck Museum shows the most beautiful pictures from the collection. This is where the whole richness of color and subjects peculiar to Fritz and Hermine Overbeck presents itself: the bright white of the birch trees and the famous Worpswede sky, the surging billows of the North Sea, and the magnificence of the flowers in their garden in Vegesack. Incomparably, both painters made the surrounding landscape the center of their art. At the same time, the anniversary show presents a retrospective of 25 years of exhibition history in the Overbeck Museum, as well as a quarter of a century of the presence of KITO in the Old Packhouse Vegesack: Issues entertaining and worth knowing, highlights, and surprises, curious and moving things. Celebrate with us!
