Fritz and Hermine Overbeck – The Drawings
17 November 2019 — 2 February 2020
Fritz Overbeck | Felder im Schluh | um 1898 | Federzeichnung auf Karton
The sketchbook is often the most important tool of an artist. In quick strokes with pencil or charcoal, they collect motifs, design pictorial compositions, and develop their unique artistic style.
Fritz and Hermine Overbeck, too, made a lot of sketchbook drawings and thus laid the foundation for their extensive and varied artistic work. Originally conceived as pure working material, the spontaneous sketches unfold their charm today.
Authentically and directly, they capture a vivid snapshot-like visual impression, and in doing so allow the viewer to participate in the artistic working process of the painter couple.
