Thomas Wunsch – Abstract Photography

25 January — 12 April 2015

The abstract black and white photographs of Thomas Wunsch assert themselves with an impressive autonomy, detached from any representational representation. Enigmatic and rich in nuances, full of tension and contrasts, the pictures present themselves to the beholder. Traces of time and decay become visible: scratches and nicks, cracks and drops.

To the beholder, it seems as if something inconspicuous, often overlooked, is made visible, as if small things are enlarged and everyday things are made special. The sometimes large-format digital prints do not reveal on which part of reality the image is based. All the more the mysterious, sometimes razor-sharp, sometimes decidedly blurred outlines, the lines and contours, and the varied play of light and shadow capture the viewer’s imagination. The abstract expressionistic structures open a new, unknown space for associations.

Thomas Wunsch has been a photographer since he was 17 years old. His works are shown at exhibitions around the globe. After many years of experience in portrait and fashion photography with international stars, he has been working for more than 15 years mainly in the field of abstract black-and-white photography.
